That moment you become a parent your life changes forever. I never could have imagined just how much it would change my life. I knew I would love my kids and I knew I would enjoy being a parent, but the magnitude of that love and devotion is monumentally beyond words.
Looking into the eyes of my first child I knew instantly that my life would never be the same. In that moment my life took a back seat to to hers. I knew that she would always be a priority. With each additional child that feeling grew. They were the reason I was put on this Earth. They were a piece of me. For the last thirteen years I have sacrificed everything for them, and I have done it out of love. I walked away from my dream of working in the medical field so that I could be home with them. I wanted to ensure they got all my dedication, and that I was raising my kids, not a stranger. I gladly put my career on the back burner so that I could be with them.
It’s funny how fast thirteen years has passed. My kids have been through a lot and we have jumped over all challenges as a family. Sleep deprivation, no alone time, noise levels that no sane person should endure, illnesses – big or small I’ve taken them all. Not always with a smile on my face I’ll admit, but I never questioned the insanity. Whenever something hard came our way all I had to do was look in their eyes and know it was all worth it. Why? Because my family is my world and I do it all out of love.
I know I am not alone in my sacrifices of a parent for their kids. It’s such a universal feeling – being willing to sacrifice it all for those we love. Johnson & Johnson has just released a new ad that recognizes this love perfectly. I love their new video and I think it really does capture the love a parent has for their child.
